Who is Lau

Hi! I’m Laura but you can call me Lau!

I’m a Spanish teacher accredited by the Camilo José Cela University and a DELE examiner for the Cervantes Institute.

I am also a journalist specialized in television.

When I was little I grew up with my family in an apartment in the center of Barcelona.

It was a big apartment where we hosted Spanish students from all over the world and I was kind of like their “pet”.

I literally grew up surrounded by Spanish students:

This is me when I was 9 years old, teaching my first Spanish lesson (actually, I was teaching them the Macarena dance).

Then I grew up, studied journalism and lived in Belfast and London, where I learned to make coffees and became a radio correspondent.

But I missed the sun, so I returned to Spain and settled in Madrid, where I live and have worked for many years as a scriptwriter and television reporter for the country’s most important networks.

Until one day, something woke up inside me.

They were the voices of all the students who passed through my house when I was little. Their voices, like the call of destiny, singing the macarena, with more or less charm, resounded loudly in my head. And then it was clear to me: I wanted to be a Spanish teacher.

As if hypnotized, I suddenly found myself paying for a Master’s Degree in Teaching Spanish as a Foreign Language and after a year I was already in an academy with my first group, making them a Scape Room with which they practiced the subjunctive without realizing it.

And that’s how I became a Spanish teacher.
I love what I do so much that when I went on vacation to Peru (I love to travel!)

I was sad to leave my group!

At that moment I realized that I had found my vocation.

I also appreciated my childhood as a “pet/cheerleader” for the students in my house. With them I learned to detect the real needs of the students.

What they wanted was to be able to participate in conversations with native speakers, express their opinions, talk about soccer, laugh at my jokes, propose plans, ask my mother to cook with less salt… and they wanted to do it with confidence.

After working in private academies I have launched my own online academy and every day I am more and more surprised with the efficiency, freedom, creativity, flexibility and ease that online classes bring!

I’m almost done.

I was supposed to convince you here that I am the best teacher in the market and all that so that you will hire my classes, but in the end I got excited and I ran off at the mouth. As you can see, I am not lacking in emotion and passion for my work and I am good at transmitting it so that you enjoy the process of learning Spanish.

Most of my students do it quickly and are satisfied.

Don’t worry, I’m not the one in the previous pictures Winking emoji, I’m now 33 years old and I have a lot of experience in this.Look, this is me with some of my students:
Well, you know me a little bit now.
